The Department of Materials Science and Engineering

This department was set up in 1948, when the former Polytechnic Institute of Cluj was established. The main objective of the department lies in offering basic and specialized courses at all levels of higher education to undergraduates in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Among the most important courses one can list the courses for long-term students in Materials Engineering, the Advanced courses in New Materials with Special Properties and for the undergraduates in short-term courses in Small and medium Enterprise Manufacturing and Management. The department has also developed an important Materials Science and Powder Metallurgy research centre ( B type, accredited by the National Council of Research in Higher Education)
